Merak & Sakteng Trek
This special trek of isolated Merak & Sakteng recently opened in 2009. Until recently this area was closed to protect the unique cultural heritage of the Brokpa people and in part to give the mythical Yeti, whose tales are very popular among the native, some peace. The people of Merak and Sakten are semi-nomadic yak herders, who speak a different dialect and wear something similar to, but different from the Traditional Bhutanese Gho and kira. |
